THIS Anzac Day, the Western Downs pays tribute to the generations of Australian and New Zealand men and women who have, and continue to, bravely defend Australia's values and freedoms, at commemorative services and events being held across on Tuesday, April 25.

This year marks the continuation of the Anzac Centenary (2014-2018) commemorating 100 years since our involvement in the First World War, the selfless bravery of our original Anzacs, and the ensuing Century of Service of Australia's armed forces.

Chinchilla RSL Sub-branch president Bill Belcher said Anzac Day was the one day of the year when returned servicemen "got to see all our mates again”.

"We all come out of the woodwork on Anzac Day,” he said.

Mr Belcher said the day of commemoration was significant to those who had served.

Residents and the communtity are invited to lay their own wreath during commemoration services.
