Beating the blues one game of golf at a time

GOLF - Miles Golf Club was a sea of activity last weekend as the club held their Beyond Blue charity day with eight teams out in full swing.

The three person ambrose competition involved plenty of prizes for all participants, but the ultimate winners were Tribe's Plant Hire on 36 points.

Pin shot prizes on the day included men's golfer won by Warren Tribe, men's non-golfer went to Adrian Davidson, women's golfer was claimed by Mavis Klein while newcomer, Emily Finlay took home the women's non-golfer prize.

Hilton Bidgood took home the junior male golfer title and junior male non-golfer was claimed by Carter Bidgood.

All proceeds made from the round of golf, the raffle and the barbecue dinner went towards Beyond Blue's ongoing support for drought affected farmers.

Captain of the Golf Club, Jeannie Bouttell, said the Miles Golf Club charity days are all about creating a circle of support within the community.

"Local businesses in town sponsor us and in turn, we support them and shop local,” she said.

"We were fortunate to receive eight teams on the day and the numbers we lacked in the golfing side of the day, we we made up for at the barbecue in the evening,

"We ended the event a little short of our $2000 goal, but the club still managed to raise a decent amount for the Beyond Blue's drought relief effort.”

Ms Beauttell said it wasn't hard to choose a worthy charity for their event.

"When we sat down and discussed which charities we wanted to support and one of the local farmers suggested we get behind a charity supporting regional mental health,” she said.

"With this prolonged drought period it's so important we look out for each other. When the rain holds back for weeks, then months mental health becomes a very major concern in regional towns like Miles,

"If we can give to a charity that will lessen one farming family's burden, then that makes the event well worth the effort.”
