Rugby League: Chinchilla A grade coach Anthony Horswood led his side through a tough encounter against the St George Dragons last Saturday.

Several players from the previous reserve grade match were tasked with backing up to play in the A grade side.

Simon Colls was injured 10 minutes into the game and was unable to take the field again.

With no score until the 19th minute, both sides battled to gain the advantage.

St George got over the line first, then Chinchilla replied with a try from Bowdy Welldon in the 23rd minute.

A successful conversion had the scores locked at 6-6. St George scored again in the 30th minute and the score remained 12-6 to St George at the end of the first half.

Early in the second half, Jeff Gilbert kicked a 40-20 to put Chinchilla into an attacking position. Not long after, Gilbert scored, and Matt Edwards followed with a successful conversion.

Scores were again locked up at 12-all.

With just four minutes left, Gilbert placed a kick across the field, just before the St George try line.

Edwards was able to take advantage of the great kick to score a try that secured the win for Chinchilla.

The try remained unconverted, leaving the final score at 22-12.

Matt Eising also made his debut for A grade, showing excellent skills in both attack and defence.

Hayden Bender was acknowledged for his efforts when he was awarded the Player's Player.

All players worked hard for the whole match to gain the win.

Both coaches were happy with the win and were looking forward to playing home games this Sunday.
