COUNCIL is about to launch a new tourism strategy - and they want your ideas to shape it.

As part of the new plan, council is calling on residents to have their say on their favourite types of events through a short online survey.

Event categories include arts and culture, festivals, concerts, foodie experiences, markets, kids and family, sporting events and corporate opportunities.

The plan is a way to give residents more opportunities to enjoy what the region has to offer, as well as boost tourism in the Downs.

Spokesperson for economic development Councillor Donna Ashurst said the Western Downs is already known for its excellent events and she wants to continue to provide a vibrant array of attractions for residents and visitors alike.

"We've always had such fantastic support from our community when it comes to our regional events, so we want to know what our community wants to see from the Western Downs,” Cr Ashurst said.

"Whether it be festivals or concerts, foodie experiences or something for the whole family, we want to hear from you.”

As part of the strategy, council is also looking for locals to represent the region, whose lives and experiences deserved to be shared.

Cr Ashurst said council would love to capture and share the stories of unique people living in the Western Downs.

"We all know someone who has led an amazing life, or has an amazing story to tell. Now is the perfect time to tell us about a local personality who may not necessarily nominate themselves,” she said.

One such resident is Dulcie Graham, the Western Downs Regional Council Citizen of the Year for the Chinchilla area.

As an active member of the Chinchilla CWA since 1950, Mrs Graham has seen Chinchilla grow and change for decades, and is happy to promote the region.

"It's an honour actually, to just be part of the community for a lot of years. Come see what we've got to offer,” Mrs Graham said.
