St George slay Battlers over the weekend in Miles

THE weekend game in Miles resulted in another disappointing round for the Wandoan Taroom Battlers as they fell hard to St George 48-10.

It appeared the mighty Battlers weren't able to keep a hold of the ball when the pressure was on with St George taking every opportunity to get away with some swift tries and accurate conversions.

With three losses from three games this season, the Battlers will have to live up to their name and spend the next few rounds hustling for points if they are to get off the bottom of the ladder.

With only 14 points on the board, the Wandoan Taroom side certainly have their work cut out for them, particularly against Wallumbilla Surat's incredible 120 points earned for the season so far.

Miles Devils club president Alex McKellar said country football was taking a beating at the moment with most players juggling football with work commitments requiring them to work away for long periods of time.

"A lot of our young players have to move away entirely to find work, which makes it increasingly hard for regional clubs like the Battlers and the Miles Devils to stay alive,” McKellar said.
