IT'S TIME to support the local economy as the Town Proud, Buy Local initiative jumps into gear once more.
This year marks the third year of the Town Proud initiative and Chinchilla Community Commerce and Industry Inc is again partnering with the Chinchilla News to launch the program.
CCCI event manager Gaye Smith said Town Proud, Buy Local was all about promoting local businesses and encouraging residents to keep their money in the local economy.
"Be Town Proud, stimulate our economy and keep our community thriving,” MsSmith said.
The initiative includes prize draws where people who shop in local businesses are in to win shopping vouchers and a grand prize from Mitre 10.
Town Proud works by CCCI providing businesses with prize draw entry forms they can then offer their customers as an incentive to shop locally.
There are three Town Proud prize draws in total, the first two being held on October 14 and November 14.
Each is worth $500 of "Chinchilla Money” - vouchers from local businesses for the winner to spend as they choose.
The final draw will take place on December 14 during the CCCI Christmas Street Party, the grand prize being an outdoor home entertainment pack donated by Mullins Mitre 10.
Chinchilla News' Bobbie Gorring said it was an excellent initiative.
"This is the third year Chinchilla News has proudly partnered with the CCCI to bring the Town Proud initiative to the community,” she said.
"Chinchilla News understands the importance of this campaign, because it supports local businesses that employ local people while driving the local economy.
"I would encourage everyone to take a look at the participating businesses this year and get down to those stores to support them with whatever purchases they can, as they will also go in the draw to win a fantastic outdoor prize pack from another truly local business, Mitre 10.”
There are currently more than 30 participating businesses, and more are welcome to sign up with CCCI.
CCCI event manager Gaye Smith said the initiative had been very successful so far.
"There's been great outcomes. I can see that we're continually growing in participating businesses,” she said.
"Our businesses keep participating each year and we're getting more.”
It's an idea that has impacted other towns, too.
Ms Gorring said the widespread support was evidence of the power of buying local.
"I have seen more and more Town Proud campaigns taking off in other towns around the region, which is an obvious indication that the original Town Proud promotions have been a success.”
