WESTERN Downs Regional Council has opened the 2019 Flavour It Your Way competition and residents are encouraged to submit their ultimate flavour ideas for public judging this Australia Day.

The crowd favourite sausage sizzle competition is returning to Chinchilla for the fourth time and this year will also kick off in Dalby, Miles and Tara.

Residents are invited to submit their sausage flavour ideas to their local butcher. The most popular flavour will be cooked locally and judged by the community on Australia Day.

Councillor Kaye Maguire was looking forward to tasting the entries.

"Australia Day is definitely a highlight and our region is home to some of the finest local produce on the Darling Downs, so what better way to celebrate than with an authentic Western Downs sausage sizzle competition with our very own unique flavours,” Cr Maguire said.

Chinchilla's Gleeson Quality Meats owner Clinton Smith was excited to see what the community came up with.

"People are really creative with this competition and it keeps me and my team very interested - we brainstorm ideas to see what we can do,” Mr Smith said.

Chinchilla residents Adele Brewer (pork, white chocolate and sultana), Chloe Wright (vegemite and cheese) and Cody Grealy (chicken, cheese and gravy) have won in previous years.
